M&S collaborates with Terence Conran
Marks & Spencer is partnering with Sir Terence Conran to design an exclusive home collection to debut from September 2011.
The move follows the company’s announcement in November 2010, as part of a wider strategy, to improve segmentation of its Home department, under ’lifestyle’ categories: classic, contemporary and design.
Under the guidance of the celebrated British designer, Conran & Company will create an ’only at M&S collection’ including furniture, bedding, lighting and kitchenware.
“It gives us the chance to produce a truly democratic and British collection, something that I have been aiming to achieve all my working life”
Marc Bolland, chief executive, M&S says: “I’m very proud to announce our exciting new collaboration with Britain’s most influential designer, Sir Terence Conran. I’ve long admired the work of Sir Terence – his name is synonymous with exquisite modern design and he was the natural choice of partner to help us create our Contemporary homeware range.”
Sir Terence Conran adds: “To work with M&S on this project is the opportunity of a lifetime. It gives us the chance to produce a truly democratic and British collection, something that I have been aiming to achieve all my working life. Everything that William Morris and the Bauhaus, both great inspirations to me, hoped to achieve. This is our chance at last.”
The preview collection will be available in stores and online from. Further roll-out is planned throughout 2012, with the collection expected to form a large part of the M&S Home department.
