M&S names date for Tesco’s Wade-Gery

Marks & Spencer has confirmed that former Tesco.com CEO Laura Wade-Gery will join the retailer as multichannel e-commerce director on 4 July, earlier than thought.

Wade-Gery will be tasked with growing M&S’s online and multichannel business. M&S has previously outlined aims to grow its online sales to £800-£1bn by 2013/14. Online sales totalled £413m last year which means Wade-Gery’s job is to double online sales within three years.

Observers have suggested that Wade-Gery will look to develop an online food business for M&S, which it currently lacks.

M&S poached the former Wade-Gery from Tesco earlier this year, just weeks after the supermarket’s new UK CEO Richard Brasher reshuffled the senior management team and made her commercial director for clothing, electronics and merchandise.
