M&S taps into Jubilee and Games fever

Marks & Spencer is launching a summer ad campaign starring its British brand ambassadors Lisa Snowdon, Jamie Redknapp and Gary Barlow as it looks to tap into the patriotic fervour the Jubilee and Olympic Games are expected to generate.

Twiggy, Dannii Minogue, Noemie Lenoir and Myleene Klass will also star in the ad, which shows a traditional British summer party including an egg and spoon race, garden tennis and a bonfire.

The campaign highlights M&S’s food, homeware and fashion collections and uses the strap line, ‘On your Marks for a summer to remember’ in a bid to align the campaign with the Olympic Games despite not being an official partner.

It includes a cover of The Beatles’ Here Comes The Sun performed by Gary Barlow.

The ad breaks on TV tomorrow (4 April) night but will be available to watch on the M&S website from Wednesday morning.

Steve Sharp, executive director of marketing at M&S, says: “It’s going to be the summer of a lifetime for our customers and we want to do something extra special to mark this celebratory year. Just like the Royal Family and our sporting heroes, M&S triggers a unique reaction in the hearts and minds of the British public and this campaign really encapsulates that sense of fondness and nostalgia.”

Redknapp and Snowdon are the faces of the M&S Man and M&S Woman brands. Klass fronts M&S Money.
