MySpace signs content exchange deal with Five

MySpace has signed an “exclusive” deal with broadcaster Five to showcase its flagship show Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky.

It says it is the first agreement of its kind, enabling the social networking site and a national news channel to exchange content.

The joint venture will feature The MySpace News Bulletin, a daily co-branded news broadcast that will be posted online via a new Five/MySpace TV channel,

A MySpace spokeswoman says the partnership allows its nine million unique users to “directly interact” with the news show by sharing clips with friends and messaging the news team.

Five News will also use MySpace as a news gathering resource, and inviting users to upload their own content for possible includion in the show. The deal is believed to be part of Five’s longer term digital strategy
, which involves creating deeper alliances with social networking sites.

The partnership follows yesterday’s (Monday) tie-up between ITV and rival site Bebo. ITV will seed content from its youth-oriented digital channel ITV2.

MySpace also partners with a number of content providers including the BBC on entertainment channels and promotions.
