Nandos in Peri-Peri Chips venture

Nando’s, the chicken restaurant chain, is expanding into the snacks market for the first time with the launch of Peri-Peri Chips. The premium range is being rolled out in Tesco stores now.

The snacks, which are launched by manufacturer All About Food and produced by Burts Chips, are “hand cooked” crisps in three flavours, Peri-Peri Chicken, Smokey BBQ Peri-Peri and Hot Peri-Peri.

The range comes in 150g sharing bags and will be priced at £1.59. It is being positioned against luxury snack products such as Kettle Chips and Tyrells.

Peri-Peri, which is available in cooking sauces and marinades as well as at Nando’s 190 UK restaurants, is a blend of lemons, spices, African birds eye chillies and garlic.

Charlotte Dewhurst, product manager at All About Food, says: “Nando’s Peri-Peri Chips will bring Nando’s social, sharing restaurant experience into consumers’ homes.”

All About Food, previously known as The Grocery Company, develops restaurant brands into grocery brands and works with Pizza Express, Wagamama and Cranks in addition to Nando’s. It says it has plans for further brand developments in 2009.
