National Blood Service launches TV campaign

The National Blood Service is launching a TV campaign to promote its work and attract new donors. The ads will break on June 9.

The three ads show people in everyday scenes who are unaware they will need blood in the next few days. One execution shows an elderly couple strolling along a promenade and says in the next few days the lady will have hip surgery.

The ads have the strapline “Give blood now and you can save someone’s life…today. Please don’t leave it to someone else.”

The ads are designed to emphasise that potential donors should give blood regularly, not just when someone needs it.

The NBS TV campaign marks a departure from its previous advertising strategy, which were celebrity driven. The ads will be shown in the lead up to World Blood Donor Day on June 14. The day aims to show appreciation of voluntary unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly.
