New FA TV deal

In spite of certain comments made in an article in last week’s issue dated July 10, Marketing Week and the Football Association would like to make it clear that the five sponsors cited in the article do not have concerns with a deal, signed on July 10, to broadcast the FA Cup and England international football games on the BBC and BSkyB.

Karen Goffe, UK marketing director for Pepsi, one of the sponsors, says: “Coverage so far from both the BBC and Sky has been excellent and contrary to recent press reports I am in fact very pleased with the new BBC/Sky arrangement. I believe it will deliver greater coverage across a wider audience.”

Paul Barber, the FA’s director of marketing and communications, says that the new deal is “great news” for its commercial partners.
