News Corp and NBC name video-sharing site Hulu

News Corporation and NBC have announced the name of their new launch joint venture video-sharing website: Hulu. The two companies say they chise the name because they wanted something that sounds “inherently fun” and because it rhymes with itself.

The new website, which seeks to challenge Google’s dominance in online video via YouTube, will host complete shows from both News Corp’s Fox and NBC, including shows such as the Simpsons, and films from 20th Century Fox

Hulu will also allow users to edit content to create their own “mash-ups” from the content available.

The site will be free to view for users as it is to be supported by advertising.
The joint venture was first announced in March this year with executives claiming it would shift the balance in online video.
