News Corp appoints European chief operating officer

News Corp has appointed Jan Koeppen to take the newly created role of chief operating officer, Europe & Asia.

Koeppen (pictured) will work across News Corp’s businesses in the region, including pay TV, television, outdoor, newspapers and related digital assets.

He will be responsible for finance, corporate development and operational improvement and reports to chairman and chief executive, Europe & Asia James Murdoch.

News Corp president and long-standing COO Peter Chernin recently announced that he was stepping down from the business and chief executive Rupert Murdoch is expected to take up the majority of his responsibilities.

He joins News Corp from The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where he was a partner, managing director and worldwide co-lead of their media practice. During his time at BCG, Jan has worked with media businesses across Europe including extensive experience with television and publishing businesses.

News Corp recently brought in BCG to carry out a strategic review of the business and Koeppen has worked with News Corp businesses.

Murdoch says: “Jan has rare understanding and capability from across the media industry and he is well known to colleagues around our businesses. I am delighted that he is joining the team at a time that will help shape News Corp. for many years to come.”
