Newspaper websites lose readers

Newspaper websites were all hit by month-on-month falls in online readership during February although Telegraph.co.uk and Guardian.co.uk recorded significant increases year-on-year, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations Multi-Platform Report.

Telegraph.co.uk rose 70.6% to 12.28 million year-on-year, while the market leader, Guardian.co.uk rose 42% to 19.5 million although both recorded marginal falls of less than 1% from January. The two sites are the only ones to report year-on-year figures.

The Sun, the News International-owned tabloid, saw the biggest month-on-month drop, falling 6% to 12.5 million from 13.3. million in January. Times Online also saw a monthly drop of over 4% to 14.17 million despite a 35% increase last month.

Association Newspapers-owned DailyMail.co.uk, which includes The Daily Mail and The Mail On Sunday, also recorded a drop of 4.85% to 17 million from from 17.9 million.
