Nike man replaces Patton as European chief at Sony

Ben Moore

Sony has appointed former Nike marketer Ben Moore as its European chief replacing David Patton, who takes over as Grey UK group chief executive this week. The move reunites Moore with the brand he used to handle as an account man at BMP DDB in the late Nineties.

Moore left his role as head of brand communications at Nike earlier this month. It is not clear when he will take over as senior vice-president marketing communications at Sony but the consumer electronics giant has confirmed he is joining the company.

Moore worked at DDB and Lowe but started his career as a graduate trainee at Saatchi & Saatchi. At Lowe he worked alongside Mark Cadman, currently chief executive Euro RSCG London. Moore was responsible for the Burger King and Hornby accounts at DDB.

Patton joined Sony as Playstation marketing manager in the mid-Nineties from Nintendo. His role was expanded to include the full Sony portfolio in 2004 following a restructure of its European marketing team (MW April 1, 2004). It is thought that Moore will be a direct replacement.

He was appointed as chief executive of Grey earlier this year. He replaced Tamara Ingram, who left the role in January to become global head of Procter & Gamble for WPP Group. Patton is expected to focus on developing new business at the agency. He will be responsible for the London agency and direct marketing agency Joshua.
