NLP speaks volumes, clearly

David Benady presented an interesting article on the effectiveness of NLP, while (rightly) sceptical of the extravagant claims of some trainers and practitioners (MW August 12).

He queries “typical NLP research-speak” which is not, as he implies, the result of pseudo-scientific studies to generate statistical support for NLP.

Many of the more extravagant claims for NLP arise from a “tabloidisation” of academically verified research – where in the interests of simplicity the important caveats often get forgotten.

The bottom line is that NLP is a very pragmatic discipline – note what works and what does not, and adapt your behaviour accordingly. NLP provides a framework for doing that in a systematic way and practitioners cannot fail to improve their presentation skills by using it.
