No room at the inn for S&N boss

Scottish & Newcastle director of corporate development John Nicolson may be adept at brokering billion pound deals with French breweries (MW March 30) but it seems he still has trouble getting into one of his own bars.

According to The Diary’s spies, Nicolson’s attempts to get past the doorman at S&N-owned Bar 38 in Edinburgh the other evening, proved less than successful – even when staff confirmed he was a main board director. Nicolson’s comments were, sadly, not recorded for posterity. Let’s hope he had more success in ordering a pint of Kronenbourg.
