Nokia appoints former GSK marketer

Nokia UK has appointed former GlaxoSmithKline marketer Mark Loughran as general manager following the promotion of Simon Ainslie. The announcement comes on the same day that the handset manufacturer announced plans to scrap 450 jobs.

Nokia UK managing director Simon Ainslie is moving to a new global position of vice president retail and customer marketing. He has led the UK division since July 2006.

Loughran is currently UK sales director for the mobile handset manufacturer. He joined from the position of vice president sales and marketing at GSK in June 2003 The pair will take up their respective new roles from 1 January.

The news comes as Nokia plans to axe 450 jobs from its Markets unit, including supply chain management, sales and marketing. The restructure follows a five per cent drop in third quarter sales. The company hopes that it’s new “Comes With Music” unlimited music download launch will help revitalise sales of its handsets.
