The change was prompted by the move of Nokia’s head of consumer marketing for UK and Ireland John Nichols into a global role. Further details about Nichols’ position are not yet known, but it is thought to be brand related.

Johnson is now responsible for the strategy and execution for advertising, digital, sponsorship events and working with its trade customers to ensure maximum and exposure and brand alignment for Nokia in the UK.

It is likely Nokia will also be searching for a direct replacement for Nichols to head up all marketing in the UK, to include responsibility for additional areas beyond Johnson’s remit such as insight and retail.

Nokia is currently in the middle of its marketing activity to support its latest Lumia smartphones that run on the Windows 8 operating system. Activity in the UK includes a sponsorship deal with Channel 4’s drama programmes and TV adverts featuring “real people” explaining what they like best about the device.

The launch of the previous Lumia models culminated in a “4D” gig performed by Deadmau5, which featured a light projection show on to London’s Millbank tower.

He’d been extra-cautious for months, regularly scanning the coastline for anything suspicious. So on that Friday evening he was quick to spot the coastguard vessel emerging through the darkness from the mainland. He could see its cargo of black-suited, armed guards onboard. He watched in silence through binoculars as those deadly troops fanned out across the white sand and disappeared into the dense tropical undergrowth. They were coming for him.
