Nokia has called a review of its global media planning and buying account

MediaCom currently handles Nokia’s European, Asian and US accounts.

The move comes the same month as Nokia divided its global lead digital advertising account between Aegis Group’s digital network Isobar and incumbent digital creative agency R/GA.

This followed the appointment of Wieden & Kennedy to its £100m Nseries advertising account, after a pitch against incumbent Lowe London last November.

Nokia sales declined in the run to Christmas as the global economic downturn hit mobile phone sales. The company registered net sales of €12.6bn (£11.2bn) in the final quarter of 2008, down from €15.7bn (£13.9bn).

Research firm Gartner recently reported that mobile phone companies sold nearly 119 million fewer mobile phones in the final three months of last year.

Gartner found Nokia sold nearly 119 million mobile phones in Q4, giving it a market share of 37.7% of the market.
