Npower, the utility provider, is seeking to attract upmarket consumers through a deal with The Daily Telegraph.

The tie-up, which starts next week, will offer Telegraph subscribers discounts on their energy supply. It will also target readers of the Daily Mail and The Times, offering energy discounts and a free Telegraph for six months if they sign up to npower’s dual-fuel product.

The deal will continue npower’s campaign against rival British Gas, which was launched late last year (MW December 8).

The Telegraph mail-out asks: “Tired of the same old story from British Gas?”In a separate campaign, npower will roll out a series of ads next week that will highlight a recent commendation for consumer satisfaction.

According to a survey by research group JD Power, npower is the best electricity supplier in terms of customer satisfaction.

The survey, which had 2,500 respondents, saw npower rated top gas provider for supply quality and reliability, and top electricity supplier on price, billing and payment.

Kevin Peake, customer marketing chief at npower, says: “We see the JD Power survey as being the most comprehensive of its kind; it is the industry benchmark. It is a major achievement for a brand that is only six years old.” The company will be including the JD Power logo on all billing and customer communications.
