Oasis launches peer-to-peer SMS gift voucher

High street fashion retailer Oasis is launching a text message gift voucher system.

The system, powered by  Eagle Eyes mobile technology, allows consumers to buy gift vouchers for friends and family and send them directly to users mobile handsets. The unique code can then be redeemed in-store via the chip and pin machine at the till point.

Shoppers can purchase gift vouchers online in denominations of £10 – £300 and personalise the date and time that the gift voucher is sent to the recipient.

The retailer claims that the mobile gift voucher is the first peer-to-peer SMS voucher.

Aurora Fashions, which owns the chain, plans to roll the mobile voucher system out to its other high-street chains Warehouse, Karen Millen and Coast in early 2010.

Oasis will communicate the new vouchers to existing customers via direct email marketing to subscribers to the Oasis as well as in-store marketing and digital and social media activity through fan pages and blogs.

The Mobile Gift Voucher initiative keeps Oasis at the forefront of technological development for the high street through embracing the emerging mobile market and creating a roadmap for the future integration of online and in-store commerce.”

It launches on 8 December at all Oasis standalone store in the UK and Ireland.
