On the path to becoming a legend

Meet the scholars: The Marketing Hall of Legends has unveiled the first 28 young marketers to join The Marketing Academy, the coaching and mentoring scheme created to help develop emerging talent.

The Marketing Academy

But getting through the rigorous application process was just the start – next week sees the Academy’s first scholars kick off their year of learning with an intense three day ‘boot camp’, hosted by the Chartered Institute of Marketing at their venue in Cookham next week. They’ll be spending time with each other learning all about the programme as well as meeting with faculty partners including Google, design agency jkr, and brand specialist Brand Learning.

They will also hear words of wisdom from some of our mentors including Aviva CMO Amanda Mackenzie as they undertake a two day leadership development programme.

Originally there were only 25 places up for grabs but such was the calibre of applicant that it was decided to let 28 scholars to enter the Academy’s first ever class. The full list of the 28 scholars can be found by clicking here.

The Marketing Hall of Legends and the academy scheme was set up to help solve the problem of succession planning by developing the potential and vision of young marketers.

The students will receive 12 months of mentoring, development and coaching from more than 50 CEOs, CMOs and marketing directors of brands and agencies as well as luminaries within academia and trade bodies.
Marketers giving their time for free include Mark Lund, COI chief executive, Wendy Becker, group CMO at Vodafone, former marketing director at Cadbury Phil Rumbol, Joe Clift, brand & customer marketing director at Lloyds Banking Group, Martin Glenn, CEO of Birds Eye Iglo Group and Andy Fennell, CMO at Diageo.

Agency figures include Andrew McGuinness, CEO of Beattie McGuinness Bungay, Cilla Snowball, chairman of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and Moray MacLennan, worldwide CEO of M&C Saatchi.

The scheme is sponsored by a number of brands and Marketing Week. It was set up by Marketing Hall of Legends CEO Sherilyn Shackell, with the help of Doug Richard, of TV’s Dragon’s Den and founder of School for Start Ups.
