French sports goods brand Champion Sportswear has handed the London agency its 1.5m media planning and buying account.

The Sara Lee-owned brand is involved in sponsorship of softball, hockey and basketball in the US. It recently signed a deal with BSkyB to sponsor coverage of basketball on Sky Sports.

Optimedia is also understood to have won the Hanes clothing range across Europe. Hanes is also owned by Sara Lee. Hanes previously appointed TBWA to a one-year contract in 1995 to handle a 5m relaunch of the brand.

The company intends to invest heavily this year on advertising the brand as a niche sports label.

Optimedia has also won the US household cleaning brand Spontex from CIA Medianetwork. Spontex is controlled by French group Total. It makes mops and cleaning cloths. It recently launched two new products on the French market: pre-moistened bio Household Cleaning Wipes and Fridge & Microwave wipes. The two contain biocide, which works against salmonella, listeria and E coli.

Optimedia has also won up to 1m media planning and buying for Condé Nast travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller.
