Papa John’s hires Brown-Forman chief marketer

Papa John’s International, world’s third largest pizza company, has hired Brown-Forman marketer Andrew Varga as senior VP and chief marketing officer.

He will report to Papa John’s president and chief operating officer, Jude Thompson.

Varga joins after 21 years with drinks company Brown-Forman, where since 2007 he held the position of senior VP/director of marketing, responsible for its wines and spirits portfolio in the North American region.

Between 2004 to 2007 Varga was senior VP/managing director, wines marketing, with global responsibility for the wine portfolio.

Prior to that role he was VP/director of corporate strategy, leading Brown-Forman’s strategic planning process and reporting to the company’s chairman and chief executive.

Papa John’s is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. It recently reported revenues of $276.6m (£169m) for the second quarter of the year, a 2.4% fall from the comparable 2008 period.

Meanwhile, revenues for the six months to 28 June fell 1.9% to $561.6m (£343m).
