PC World hands operations director top marketing post

The Dixons Stores Group has appointed Steve Campbell as marketing chief at PC World.

Campbell, operations director at the retail chain, replaces Peter Keenan as marketing director. Keenan has been promoted to assistant managing director at Currys, where he will have responsibility for marketing and business development. Campbell will report to Simon Turner, group managing director for PC World.

The moves are part of a larger reshuffle which has involved the departure of Currys’ former marketing director, Ian Ditcham, who is understood to have left the Dixons Group without a job to go to, and former Dixons marketing director Stuart Carson, who is emigrating to Canada.

The reshuffle comes on the back of disappointing Christmas sales for the Dixons Group and a warning issued in January that its pre-tax profits for the year to the end of April 2003 are expected to fall below the &£320m to &£335m figure forecast by the City.

The group has also been troubled by a report from the Competition Commission, published earlier this month, which said Dixons may have a monopoly in the market for the extended warranties for electrical goods. Dixons has rebutted this claim, saying the watchdog’s figures are misleading.
