Phones4U head of social exits

Phones4U head of social media Jeremy Waite is to leave the mobile phone retailer.

Waite joined Phones4U a year ago to head up marketing on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. It is not yet known if he has a job to go to.

Previously a social media consultant, he has worked with brands including Unilever, Centrica, Reebok, MTV and Kellogg’s.

Waite, who spoke at Marketing Week’s Digital Strategy summit in January, is a self proclaimed “social media evangelist” and pushes for social media to be accepted by senior management on more commercial terms.

During his time at Phones4U, social media was switched from the marketing division to the ecommerce division in a bid to make it more commercially viable.

Read what Waite, and other marketers, think about the effectiveness of social media in the cover feature ‘Benchmark your Social Media’ (16 February).
