Portsmouth hunts head marketer

Portsmouth Football Club is looking for a commercial director to lead an expansion of its marketing operations.

Turnover at Portsmouth has more than trebled in recent years and the club is redeveloping its Fratton Park stadium to increase the capacity to 28,000 by the end of next year.

The commercial director position is new and the successful candidate will be responsible for marketing activity and sponsorship deals. Marketing has previously been handled by the commercial department.

Portsmouth has recently appointed a finance director as part of the expansion of the team and a spokesman says: “We’re looking to expand all the key areas, so this is in-keeping with the growth the club is experiencing.”

The club, which is in its second season in the Premiership, is looking for a new shirt sponsor as its deal with soft toy manufacturer Ty runs out at the end of this season.
