Powergen boss quits for ‘other opportunities’

Former Powergen marketing director John Evans, who is working on branding projects for the utility’s parent company Eon, will leave the company at the end of this month.

It is not known whether Evans has a job to go to. He was sidelined to the branding project assignment last year, when the utility company decided to merge its sales and marketing departments. Subsequently, Powergen appointed former Barclaycard marketing director Paul Parmenter to the newly created position of sales and marketing director (MW October 17, 2002).

A spokesman for Powergen says: “John Evans is leaving the company on May 30 to pursue other opportunities. The parting has been amicable.”

Evans was responsible for the appointment of Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R to the energy company’s &£12m advertising account, after a three-way pitch (MW July 11, 2002). The agency pitched against Delaney Lund Knox Warren and incumbent Soul.

Evans was also responsible for the launch of the Onebill service – aimed at dual-fuel customers – and Powergen’s high-profile sponsorship of ITV’s national weather bulletins.

Last year, Powergen acquired rival gas and electricity company TXU Energi. Following the acquisition, TXU Energi marketing director Matthew Crane announced that he would be leaving the company in June (MW February 20).
