Premier Foods in strong position

Premier Foods, owner of brands including Hovis, Oxo and Branston, has reported strong results in a half year trading update released today.

The group saw trading profits rise 5.6% to £123.6m as sales of top brands increased 8.6%.

Since its relaunch in September, sales of the Hovis bread brand have increased 17%.

Sales of the Branston brand and Lloyd Grossman increased 41% and 35% respectively.

“Against the backdrop of an exceptionally tough trading environment, we are pleased with our progress with increased market share through co-ordinated programmes of innovation, advertising and promotional activity. We are delighted by the continued success of Hovis which has grown its sales by 17% and reached its highest market share for over 2 years,” says Premier Foods chief executive Robert Schofield.

Last month, Premier Foods announced it was relaunching its Oxo brand with a £2m marketing campaign.
