Project Canvas, the on-demand TV service due to launch this year, is to hold a pitch with agencies for its UK ad account.

The appointed agency will be responsible for all Project Canvas advertising, with a reported £50m to be spent on marketing and branding by the venture in the first four years.

The joint IPTV venture between BBC Worldwide, ITV, Channel 4, Five, BT and TalkTalk will offer free-to-view, HD video-on-demand and internet services via a set-top box.

It was given provisional approval by the BBC Trust in December, with a final decision to be made this spring (nma.co.uk 22 December 2009).

Broadcasters BSkyB and Virgin have opposed Project Canvas (nma.co.uk 17 August 2009).
