Propaganda scoops UK Chupa Chups brief

Chupa Chups, the confectionery manufacturer, has appointed Propaganda to its advertising account, worth up to £1m.

The Leeds-based shop won the UK business for the Cremosa and Fruitella brands after a two-way pitch with an undisclosed London agency.

Propaganda’s managing director, Mike Phillipson, says: “Winning the business of a leading brand like Chupa Chups means we start 2007 on a great footing.”

Chupa Chups plans to grow its sugar-free category and will launch a press campaign targeting women.

Ads will feature in bookends and half double-page spreads in women’s weekly magazines such as Closer, OK, Heat and Zest. MediaVest Manchester is signed up as the media buyer.

The account is believed to be for one year. It is the first time Propaganda has worked with the confectionery company, based in Barcelona. Chupa Chups was bought by Italian confectioner Perfetti Van Melle in July 2006.

Along with the eponymous lollipops, which come in 40 flavours, the company manufactures Smint. It operates in 150 countries.

Propaganda has also created an advertising campaign for ghd, the electrical hair straightener firm. The £2m campaign starts with new TV ads airing next week.

The 40-second commercials will run on C4, E4, Sky and Digital for six weeks during programmes including Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.
