Random House appoints new chief to co-ordinate overseas operation

Publishing giant Random House is appointing its first international marketing director to co-ordinate marketing overseas.

The company has hired Dorling Kindersley’s head of marketing, Rosamund Wesson, as international marketing director.

Wesson’s role will be to work with marketing departments in associated Random House companies in the US, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand and link marketing initiatives.

She will also take charge of agents in local markets in Europe and co-ordinate book promotions. She will report to group marketing director Susan Sandon.

Random House international sales director David Parrish says: “How we sell and market ourselves in the overseas territories has changed dramatically in the past five years. We have gone from UK-based sales people travelling the world to local operations. These can only benefit from the skills of an experienced marketing professional like Rosamund.”

Dorling Kindersley has yet to appoint a replacement head of marketing. Wesson has been with the publisher for four years.

Previously she worked in the marketing department at publisher Macdonald and at Random House divisions Chatto & Windus, Hutchinson and Century.
