Recruitment ‘chaos’ and marketing’s bubble: Your Marketing Week
At the end of every week, we look at the key stories, offering our view on what they mean for you and the industry. From the increasingly convoluted marketing recruitment process to Coca-Cola’s warning against getting stuck in a marketing bubble it’s been a busy week. Here is my take.
Is recruitment becoming self-defeating?
The tumult of the past 24 months has had a long tail impact on marketers. Reduced budgets, hard choices, greater scrutiny. Sadly, there are many marketers back on the job market through no fault of their own. Low growth and high costs have seen marketers at all levels structured out or laid off. For now, there is a greater supply of very talented marketers than there are open roles.
Rather than seeing this as an opportunity to scoop up a plentiful supply of seasoned marketers and young talent – and quick – many companies are biding their time and applying a depth of scrutiny to the recruitment process they ordinarily wouldn’t.
