Red Knights supporters launch new campaign

Pressure group the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) is to launch a fresh marketing campaign ahead of the new Premier League season to keep up the pressure on the club’s owners to quit.

The campaign uses the line “New Season. Same Goal” and is designed to maintain awareness and bolster membership for the campaign to oust the Glazer family. The poster was created by The Cernis Collective and Why Not Associates and will run in Manchester until the club’s first game of the season on 16 August.

MUST is angry that the club has been saddled with debts of £700m and organised a campaign that ran throughout last season to build support.

However, despite the group’s efforts, reports have said that season ticket sales have matched those of previous seasons. But it has also been reported that the club upped its marketing effort this summer to shift tickets because it feared sales could be affected by MUST’s campaign.

The Red Knights, the group of City financiers looking to buy the club, is thought to be considering a fresh bid to take control of the club but speculations suggest it is not willing to match the Glazers’ £1.5bn asking price.

Manchester United did not respond to requests for comment.

Separately, Premier League rival Liverpool is on the verge of being sold. Fans of the club have run campaigns to oust its American owners.
