Rocket, part of Omnicom’s PHD group, has retained the £42.4m media account for The Co-operative Group.

Rapp Media is also expected to retain the media business for Somerfield, which The Co-op launched a £1.56bn take over bid for in July last year.

Patrick Allen, director of marketing for Co-operative Group says: “We have retained Rocket which was found to be the most competitive for our business, combining not just very strong media buying but also high levels of strategic thinking.”

Rocket has worked with The Co-op for three years.

In February, the group launched a £10m campaign created by McCann Erickson. It aimed to highlight its ethical credentials with a TV ad featuring the iconic Bob Dylan protest song Blowin’ in the Wind.

The ad took over an entire break during Coronation Street for its launch.

More recently, it launched an online TV channel to showcase its ethical credentials as part of a sponsorship deal with ethical media site Ethical.tv
