Rowley leaves Cellnet for md post at 3 Com

Cellnet marketing director Steve Rowley is quitting to join technology company 3 Com as managing director.

Rowley, who takes up his new role next month, joined Cellnet in August 1994 from IBM, where he was director of the personal computer division. Cellnet has not yet appointed a successor.

Rowley says: “I was happy where I was, but this job is exciting and is a change of role. It’s pretty hard to find something that is growing faster than mobile phones, but this is.”

He brings to the role a blend of telecoms and computer skills. His main tasks will be to raise awareness of the company and its services and to increase its UK turnover.

3 Com specialises in data networking, which allows users to access information through the phone network.

Rowley began his career at Hewlett-Packard, before moving to Hitachi and then to IBM.
