Rugby League appoints Camelot executive as marketing director

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has appointed Camelot director Chris Green as marketing director.

Green takes up the role next month. He will have responsibility for the RFL’s marketing and media operations as well as commercial and corporate sales. He replaces Glen Baker, who left after less than six months in the job because of a “change in personal circumstances” (MW October 10).

At Camelot, Green was director of player and retailer services. He has been with the company for eight years in a number of management positions. Before that, he was marketing director at City law firm Turner Kenneth Brown and at the Financial Training Company.

One of Green’s first tasks will be to sort out the future sponsorship of the Challenge Cup. This summer, the RFL signed a &£3.7m title sponsorship deal with TXU Energi. However, in October, TXU Energi was taken over by Powergen in a &£1.6bn deal and Powergen admitted its intention to axe the TXU Energi brand (MW October 24). At present, the Challenge Cup, which has its final on April 26, is retaining the TXU name but it is unlikely that this will continue if the brand no longer exists.
