Samsung has announced Jamie Oliver as the latest addition to its line-up of global brand ambassadors that includes David Beckham and Zara Phillips, as the technology company steps up its efforts to raise awareness of its sponsorship of the Games.

The tie-up will see the celebrity chef promoting the Olympic Games in marketing and PR campaigns for the telecommunications provider. He takes up the role with immediate effect.

Oliver will also feature in Samsung’s digital marketing that will promote both its sponsorship of the Olympic Torch relay as well as its global blogger outreach programme.

Sunny Hwang, vice president and head of global sports marketing at Samsung Electronics, says: “Samsung’s ambition is to make London 2012 an Olympic Games for everyone. Having Jamie as a global brand ambassador will help us deliver this campaign message.

The South Korean business has been the Official Wireless telecommunications Partner since 1998 and is a TOP” sponsor of this year’s Games. Its current commitment as Worldwide Olympic Partner continues through to Rio 2016.

Samsung kicked off its sponsorship awareness activity last June to strengthen its brand in the UK.
