Scottish & Southern Energy overtakes E.ON in energy market
Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE), the energy provider, has overtaken rival E.on to become the UK’s second biggest supplier. The Scotland-based utility announced today (January 31) it has increased its customer numbers by 650,000 to 8.5 million.
Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE), the energy provider, has overtaken rival E.on to become the UK’s second biggest supplier. The Scotland-based utility announced today (January 31) it has increased its customer numbers by 650,000 to 8.5 million.
SSE adds that it also “on course” to deliver at least 4% financial growth from 2007/8, “in line” with brokers’ forecasts despite keeping its prices lower than its rivals.
Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE says: “The foundations for sustainable, long-term progress and growth have been laid.”
The announcement coincides with consumer watchdog Energywatch’s research, which names SSE as the best of the “big six” for customer service. The utility also confirms it will not raise its household rates until the start of British Summer Time on March 30.
SSE is expanding its renewable power generation and bought Irish wind farm operator Airtricity on February 7. It will release its financial results for the year to March 2008 on May 29.
