Seeboard workers given hot hand job

If marketers think they get a hard time, just dwell for a moment on what bosses at electricity company Seeboard are asking from their workers.

A press release from the company proudly proclaiming “Your power in their hands” introduces a new technique that allows work on overhead lines without disconnecting the power. The new technique is aptly named “hot glove” working.

Linesmen can now don “specially made rubber gloves over long rubber sleeves” and grasp lines carrying 11,000 volts.

Seeboard says the only problem has been getting the men to break the habit of prodding lines using insulated rods. Hardly surprising really.

The company says it was “inundated” by linesmen volunteering to train in the new technique. Can life at Seeboard really be that bad? For these glove puppets’ sake, the Diary hopes the gloves aren’t Marigolds.
