Sega seeks marketer to head Dreamcast launch in Europe

Sega Europe is hunting for a marketing manager to launch its much trumpeted Dreamcast games console across Europe.

The computer games giant, which is offering the right person a £50,000 pay package, is looking for marketers with an Internet, games or consumer marketing background.

The task will be to develop e-commerce sales and co-ordination across Europe. The company says it needs someone who has performed a similar role for an Internet service provider and adds that, “an interest in gaming is advantageous”.

It is understood the marketing manager will report to Giles Thomas, Sega’s UK marketing director.

The decision to create the new role coincides with Sega’s search for an online ad sales manager, online promotions manager and e-commerce sales manager.

Sega launches the Dreamcast console in September, priced £199. It will be supported by a £50m European marketing campaign, with advertising through WCRS. Media buying is to be split between Initiative Media and Carat.

Last week, Sega signed sponsorship deals with Italian football club Sampdoria and French football club Saint-Etienne (MW June 17). The deals follow its £12m agreement to sponsor Arsenal FC.
