Sherman Cooper hands md post to Gray

The European marketing director for Ben Sherman, Miles Gray, has been promoted to managing director, following a restructure at parent company, The Sherman Cooper Group.

Gray joined the company a year ago from Crescent Greenwood Limited, where he was European vice-president. Until now, the role of managing director has been handled by chief executive Bill Walker.

The company is not planning to replace Gray as European marketing director. He will continue to oversee the company’s marketing with his son Nick Gray, who was promoted to the position of European marketing manager in August.

Sherman Cooper has also set up a new department, called the new and emerging brands division, to oversee its non-Ben Sherman brands. They include Scotch & Soda, Evisu and Hard Yakka. It has appointed Roger Ireland as sales and marketing director for the division.

Over the past year, the strategy has aimed for rapid European growth, rationalisation of UK distribution, and the diversification of the core shirt range.
