Skype readies advertising platform
Skype, the internet voice and video calling company, is launching its first ever advertising platform, with Groupon, Visa and Universal Pictures among its first clients.
The new advertising will appear in the “home” tab of Skype for Windows and can include audio, video, social media integration and click-to-call direct response.
Skype says the platform allows brands from the UK, US and Germany to advertise to its145 million average monthly connected users.
Chief marketing officer Doug Bewsher says: “We believe advertising on Skype helps fill a creative gap by giving brands a platform that has broad reach and global engagement, while also supporting large-format, rich and interactive ads.”
Skype’s “home” advertising space provides a large masthead which can be expanded to 650 x 340 pixels. Users can also share the ads on their Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Skype has partnered with Ad2One in the UK, Meebo in the US and Ströer Interactive in Germany to sell the advertising space.
