SMG rolls out online TV channel

Scottish Media Group (SMG) is launching an online TV channel, scotlandontv.tv, aimed at tourists, ex-pats and people interested in exploring their Scottish roots.

The channel will launch as a free-to-air channel but there are plans to introduce archive programming on a download-to-own and subscription basis from early next year. STV, the largest commercial broadcaster in Scotland, will provide the back catalogue of shows.

Scotlandontv is hoping to extend its programming into live content and plans to launch daily bulletins with STV’s news teams.

The channel has been developed by SMG Productions, the media group’s content arm, and SMG plans to launch further online TV channels in 2007.
