Sony Ericsson in search for sports agency

sony%20ericcsonSony Ericsson is looking to appoint a sports marketing agency to its roster ahead of a renewed sponsorship push.

The mobile phone manufacturer already sponsors the women’s tennis tour in a £50m deal that is the biggest in women’s sport. But sources claim it is looking to move into other sports, including football, and it is thought the agency search is linked with those plans.

Speculation is also mounting that the company is on the verge of reviewing its £80m global advertising account just a year after appointing Saatchi & Saatchi.

Sources claim Sony Ericsson has scheduled a meeting with an intermediary ahead of a possible pitch, but a company spokesman says that any meetings with agencies or intermediaries are linked to the sports marketing pitch.

He adds: “We have no plans to make any changes to our advertising agency. We are looking for a potential partner for sports marketing.”
