Southern Electric and Gala Bingo launch green push

electricSouthern Electric, Gala Bingo and their charity partner Sue Ryder Care have launched a campaign aimed at helping consumers save money, energy and CO2 emissions. A road show has kicked off with a giant replica energy efficient light bulb travelling around the UK.

The “Go green and save money” campaign, created by Complete Media Group, will see the organisations give away three million energy saving light bulbs at all Gala clubs and Sue Ryder Care shops.

If all the bulbs given away are fitted, over £11m will be saved from people’s energy bills each year across the UK, which will in turn save 39,200 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The giant replica energy efficient light bulb, which measures over 16ft, has been fitted at the back of a truck travelling around the country spreading the energy saving message. Locations include Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham, Bristol, Brighton, Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Steven Millward, Southern Electric energy efficiency manager says: “Even though people may think it’s almost too small to make an impact, it is an important step in the right direction; and if everyone who collects a free pack of bulbs installs them, the resulting total impact will certainly be significant.”

Colin Morgan, Gala Bingo head of corporate social responsibility, adds: “Gala Coral has a corporate social responsibility programme in place and this fits perfectly with our core values and beliefs.”
