Sportsworld picks up Seve Trophy account

Sportsworld Media Group has been appointed as the marketing agency for the Seve Trophy 2002. Title sponsorship of the golf tournament is available at a fee of about &£1.8m

Sportsworld will also be responsible for attracting big brands to take up a range of associate sponsorship and hospitality programmes for the Ryder Cup-style event.

The deal excludes broadcasting rights, currently being fought over by the BBC and Sky Sports.

A spokesman for Sportsworld says: “The Seve Trophy will offer prospective sponsors high-profile global media coverage.

“We hope sponsors will want to come on board beyond the 2002 event.”

The Seve Trophy, a biennial team competition, pits the best 18 golfers from Great Britain and Ireland against mainland Europe’s top names.

Teams will be captained by Colin Montgomerie and Seve Ballesteros. The event takes place in April 2002.

In July, Sportsworld was appointed by Toyota Motorsport to secure sponsors and rights for its new Formula One team.

Sportsworld Media Group was set up two years ago by Geoff Brown, former chief executive of DDB Asia.
