Standard sales drop in latest ABCs

The London Evening Standard continued to suffer at the hands of the freesheets in November and has now lost more than one in five of the readers it had a year ago.

According to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures released today (Friday), Associated Newspapers’ Standard sold 272,448 copies in November, down a massive 21.3% on the same month in 2005.

News International’s thelondonpaper extended its lead over Associated’s London Lite from 4,945 to 30,460 copies in the battle of the evening freesheets.

All the tabloid newspapers’ circulations fell in November, with the Daily Mirror losing 50,000 more readers last month – a 3.2% month-on-month drop. The Sun, whose circulation dropped to its lowest level for 20 months in October, saw a 1.1% month-on-month fall and is now struggling to stay above 3 million.

The Daily Telegraph was the only quality daily newspaper to increase its circulation month-on-month in November, selling an average of 901,238 copies each day.


Wal-Mart drops Draft FCB after six weeks
