Sticky finger for Dome’s eager beaver

When you are working on a 758m project, the Millennium Dome for example, the last thing you want to do is to tempt fate. Sadly, the organisers of what must be one of the world’s biggest marquees had to learn this the hard way.

A construction project on the scale of the Dome is likely to lead to industrial injuries, or even fatalities. Not so with the highly-skilled Dome contractors who had been beavering away, ahead of deadlines until fate was tempted.

The workers were recently all awarded nice new T-shirts proudly announcing that 500,000 hours of Dome building work had progressed without any major accidents.

According to one source, the very next day one unfortunate contractor fell and injured his finger so badly it had to be stitched back on.
