Sun to relaunch football site
The Sun is working on the relaunch of its football website as it bids to become the go-to destination for online football coverage.
The new football destination aims to enhance the Sun’s current offer by being more visually-led, ramping up the use of video and interactive content.
It is understood that the site will be part of the main TheSun.co.uk site.
Sun owner News International is hoping the football revamp will help it better compete with rivals such as Sky Sports, BBC Sport and other national newspapers’ online football sections.
The move follows BBC Sport’s relaunch in February, which enhanced its live coverage and saw other aesthetic changes.
The new Sun site is one of a raft of products under development by News International’s digital marketing “hub”, which integrates technologists with traditional marketers.
Other projects that are live and currently in development by the hub include a used car listings website, improvements to The Sunday Times Social List and enhancements to The Sun’s Dream Team fantasy football game.
A spokesman for the publisher says: ‘SunSport constantly reviews its digital strategies on a yearly basis but we have no immediate plans to relaunch our football offering for the time being.”
