Supermarkets eye Euro 2012 opportunity

Supermarkets have switched the focus of their marketing to this summer’s next major sales opportunity as they look to exploit interest in Euro 2012.

Morrisons

In the second burst of its summer marketing activity, Morrisons will launch its ‘Great Match Bargains’ promotions to coincide with the launch of the Euros on Friday (8 June).

The ad highlights Morrisons summer deli and BBQ ranges as well as a £2 promotion on its fresh pizzas.

A spokesman for Morrisons says the supermarket has “again set out to capture the mood of the nation”.

The ad, dubbed “Watching it together”, breaks on Friday (8 June) and stars Morrisons brand ambassador Freddie Flintoff.

Sainsbury’s is preparing a number of deals on food and drink to celebrate the Championship as well as an offer on a 42” 3D TV for less than half price (£329.99).

Euro 2012 promotional activity follows a burst of promotional activity ahead of the Jubilee celebrations last weekend.

Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda are expected to follow suit with campaigns to encourage shoppers to stock up on snacks to enjoy during the tournament.
