Tandy appoints US man as marketing chief

Tandy has appointed a new sales and marketing director to fill the position left vacant when Andrew Fryatt was promoted to managing director six months ago.

Elsom Eldridge, former head of management development at RadioShack, a division of Tandy Corporation in the US, has relocated to the UK to take up the post.

Marketing manager at the electrical retail chain Elizabeth Irwin says the appointment marks a concentrated effort to move the sales department away from being “product-led” to introduce a stronger focus on marketing.

The sales and marketing department has also been restructured to incorporate a customer services function.

Irwin adds that although the primary focus for the chain will be customer service, more emphasis will be placed on themed in-store promotions in the future.

Eldridge oversaw the restructuring of RadioShack’s management training and development programme when he was based at the company’s headquarters in Texas, in the States.

Tandy has about 350 stores and 150 dealers in the UK.
