Telegraph launches free iPad App

Telegraph Media Group has launched an application for the iPad, with initial sponsorship from Audi.

The application will allow iPad users to read The Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph for free daily from 5am. A daily Matt cartoon will feature on the front page.

“This development demonstrates TMG’s dedication to making its content accessible to the widest possible audience on all key platforms,” said Edward Roussel, digital editor at TMG.

Among the other nationals, The Times has a paid-for iPad app for £9.99, Daily Express and Sunday Express charge £4.99 a month, and The Guardian currently offers a free Eyewitness iPad app, which displays high quality photographs of world events.

The partnership with Audi means The Telegraph app will be free for the first 12 weeks. Further sponsorship deals or specific pricing for the service have yet to be confirmed.

“Our association with The Telegraph’s exciting new iPad app enables us to appropriately engage with a wider readership across the most modern of platforms,” said Eve Tyers, national communications manager for Audi UK.

The application has been developed in partnership with mobile services company TigerSpike.

Telegraph Media Group is also working with the New York Times on an iPhone application and an enhanced version of the iPad app, which will launch over the next few months.
